IPC Media produces over 60 iconic media brands, with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men almost 26 million UK adults – while our websites collectivel

y reach over 20 million users every month (Omniture).

IPC's diverse print and digital portfolio offers something for everyone, with a focus on three core audiences: men, mass market women and upmarket women.

Our men's portfolio (IPC Inspire) comprises a wealth of leisure brands including Country Life, Horse & Hound,Rugby World and Decanter, as well as lifes

Our mass market women's division (IPC Connect) comprises famous women's weeklies including Look, Now, Chatand Woman; TV entertainment brands including What's on TV, TVTimes and TV & Satellite Week and, online, thegoodtoknow network.

IPC targets the woman division as it also targets the men

division and also targets a wide range of other particular audience's.

IPC Southbank is the upmarket women's division, focusing on the two
key markets of Fashion & Women's Lifestyle and Home Interest. Southbank is home to some of the most iconic magazine brands in publishing.
I think IPC Media would
target different audiences because NME has become a truly unique multi-platform media
proposition. Across the magazine, nme.com, NMETV, NME Radio and the brand's live events and awards, NME reaches over one million music fans every week. NME is the longest published and most respected music weekly in the world. Every week it gives its readers the most exciting, most authoritative coverage of the very best in contemporary music, including award winning features, the latest releases, live reviews, the
definitive guide to the best new bands in its Radar section, as well as a regular look back through the magazine's incredible 58 year heritage.

Main Task: Profiling Your Audience

Up there is a image of Drake, a vey popular and
widely loved all over the world. Most of my
audience included drake in there daily life plan
at least more than twice.

Main Task: Audience Research
'Sources'
Jordan, 20, a passionate music fan. From a young age he started singing and rapping inspired by such rappers as Drake, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne and he currently records himself and uploads onto youtube, and collects feedback. He has just started working and everyday he wakes up his turns his speakers up very loud and always makes sure his headphones are with him; he is in full time employment and does very well from himself and earns a high income. With this money, he invests in first class jets which take him back and fourth, around the world. Jordan can't help himself, he built a music room in his house which he spends more than 6hours a day listening to hip hop, R'N'B and reading 'Sources'. His iPod is packed with thousands of albums, he does not agree with downloading albums illegally and always checks website's to see when albums are coming out also he buys almost every issue of 'Sources' mag. He invites his mates over regularly and mostly welcomes them into his music room which they all enjoy music together.

Main Task: Audience Research

This is my audience research on my Music Magazine, There were several different ways of gathering my Audience research, but I chose to do mine electronically and handing out papers is a bit dated, so I gathered mine using blackberry Messenger (BBM) I used an application which allows you to screen munch any selected screen.
I also downloaded images from the internet then synced them into my Blackberry, and used these images for my research.

After conducting my Audience research, I found out my target audience would prefer the pricing to be a bit lower hence I had to think about if profit still be made if my pricing was lowered. Also I found out modern youth of today would prefer a big bold Title (Masthead) that was easily recognisable from a distance, thirdly i discovered I would have to feature big names such as Rick Ross, Benny Banks e.t.c. On the hand, I discovered my audience wouldn't like my the name of the magazine to be similar to any existing magazine.
Lastly, I discovered my audience were more willing to purchase my magazine on a consistent basis which meant every single piece of fact from the music industry had to be in 'Sources'!!!

I found using BBM muncher very useful because I could gain information quickly and didn't cost me any money at all.

Main Task: Double Page Spread Conventions Diagram

Main Task: Double Spread Textual Analysis

This double page spread is from the magazine 'XXL'. It is about 'The Game' and therefore relates to the main headline.
The Game is dressed casually, this shows he isn't really bothered about his appearance and looks as if he has a lot to say. His picture on the right hand side is the main focus and he is looking at the camera. The font is very attractive, yet very bold and simple. It is on the left hand side and also quotes exactly what the game says, it is also very legible. The mis en scene shows that he is place and looks very relaxed, but they do not focus much on the background. So this is like his dress sense.
There is also no form of advertisements nor is there any contact information.
The ideas 'XXL' are trying to convey is that 'The Game' means business and maybe has something he would like to make open to the public, his pose and facial expression would intimidate some and make some scared while it might excite some of the audience.
Looking at this double page spread, you can identify that the target audience is for teens upwards (16+), so you can see there is quite a lot of writing so the people who read this would have to be interested in the featured article and in rap hip hop music in general.
The Game is represented as a 'Gangster Rapper' who has lived a tough life through out but tends to let out his pain by rapping due to his costume you can see this and the mis en scene and hardcore bold text associated with him. The Game also has a lot of tattoo's which could show he's been through hard times in his lifetime.
The colours used in this XXL double page spread, are really simple they do not use too many colours, all the colours share the fact that they are all kind of dull colours this is to create a modern and more contemporary look.
This double page spread from XXL magazine contains one central image which occupies one whole page has the effect of centralizing the image and highlighting the significance of the artist, in the case The Game. The image used is normally effective as well as the person is normally captured in a relaxed, everyday position which welcomes the reader to reading the interview. The color scheme used is fairly simple, which acts as a means of centralizing the image further and to not dominate the page. A key convention used which is evident in many other magazines, is a quote from the interview being enlarged. The quote used is often shocking in a sense of revealing the figures emotions and possible past to the audience. The use of this shock tactic again will engage the reader further and provide a further dimension to the page, making it seem more interesting and worth reading. Other conventions used, such as a dark, bold font for the artists name also enables the reader to acknowledge who the interview is about and to ensure it is easily Other conventions used, such as a dark, bold font for the artists name also enables the reader to acknowledge who the interview is about and to ensure it is easily read.
In this double page spread it consists of a Drop Capital 'It's A'... as this shows the reader were to start reading from.
The bye-line is at right beside the image this credits journalist's name and the photographer. There are two columns in usually there are 2-4 columns.

Main Task: Contents Page Conventions Diagram

Main Task: Front Cover Conventions Diagram

This is the front page convention diagram for the genre that I chose to study which is Hip-Hop R&B. The convention gives a brief description of the different things used to make the magazine e.g. the selling line, the mast head, cover lines, main cover line etc.

Main Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis

This is a front cover from the magazine 'VIBE', the magazines focuses on music genres R'n'B and hip hop.

The Front cover fits in with this theme as the colours contrasts well, the black background makes the text stand out well, since the magazine is about the hip hop/R'n'B industry, the gold colour text could represent the fact that most hip artists wear a lot of gold jewellery.

The magazine consists of colour photograph of an artist which is 'Drake', the shot used is a medium close up shot, also he is wearing dark clothing which goes well with the background. As the text around him talks about him being new to the industry, the jewellery he is wearing around his neck is silver, this goes with the text above his head and below him, this could suggest he is new to the scene and not as experienced as the other artists so he wears the silver jewellery and not the gold as he may not have made it to the top yet.
The masthead is slightly blocked out by the his head; this does not matter as 'Vibe' is a well known and popular magazine so the audience will recognise the magazine by the style, font and positioning. His non-verbal communication looks very serious. His mouth does seem to be moving he is also not smiling and he is looking directly at the camera.

The selling lines around the picture of the artist are in bright gold and are also bold which makes them stand out, this helps engage the reader. They contain words such as; 'Exclusive' as this attracts the reader as they all know what exclusive means, so they will only find it within the magazine.

Located in the middle right of the magazine is a danger/hazard sign, the colours match with the text and selling lines. The colour and font, along with the medium close up of the artist , straight away tell us what the music genre is which is hip hop/R'n'B as the colours look quite grimy and modern. These colours will not be suitable for a pop magazine because the colours are too dark.

This magazine front cover has inspired me and got my attention as it a music genre I am interested in.

Main Task: Introduction

My Name is Sulaimon Apena and I am currently studying AS Media at Christ The King College.
For my Media Coursework I am going to create a Music magazine - includig the front cover, contents page, double spread sheet page, also I will be researching and evaluating my target audience. I have chosen to attract a very young audience and modern audience as I myself like to take part in a number social activities and read magazines.
I will be going out and stopping random peoples on the road asking for feedback being completely honest with me about my final product. Next I will be providing textual analysis of my planning; conventions will be provided with clear break downs.
For my front cover a number of images will be taken and I will have to make choices and pick which one suits my audience more.
For my contents which I think I would find the hardest I would have to explore the variety of other contents page for XXL, VIBE to even Kerrang.
My DPS is my most creative part and I intend to show this by using a variety of different fonts and a very unusual DPS Image.
My genre will be HIP & R&B.
